The experience of losing a loved one is filled with intense human emotion. One very human need we have when dealing with a loss is to rekindle fond memories of the life that has touched our hearts and find meaningful ways to celebrate their life.

The LRH Foundation has created a new Caring Hearts Tribute Fund program to do just that - keep a loved one’s memory and spirit alive by inviting contributions in their name to enhance medical care for others.

We are all familiar with the request of giving to a charity “in lieu of flowers” upon a loved one’s passing. Now, by allowing the Foundation to set up a permanent Caring Hearts Tribute Fund and invite donations in your loved one’s honour both now and in the future, you can keep their memory and spirit alive. The Foundation will establish a permanent fund in our database in your loved one’s name – for example, the John Smith Caring Hearts Tribute Fund. This fund is a vehicle for family and friends to donate in John Smith’s honour and raise money for medical needs at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.

The easiest way to donate to a Tribute fund is to arrange an ongoing monthly gift. The Foundation can create a Monthly Payment Plan at a level to suit all donor wishes. Deductions come directly out of an approved bank account or credit card for as long as a donor chooses. Setting up a direct debit monthly gift to your loved one's Tribute Fund is a great way for donors to honour your loved one while making sure the hospital continues to offer the best health services. For family members and donors to the fund, monthly giving provides something wonderfully tangible as they see the fund grow and the Foundation reports back on how the money raised has helped with patient care.

The advantage of monthly giving is that it fits easily into a person’s budget – you may give as little as $10 a month and by the end of a year, you will have painlessly contributed $120 to the Tribute Fund. This is a great help to the Foundation as it provides a dependable source of income to meet the greatest medical needs and opportunities as they come along.

When gifts are made to a Tribute Fund, the LRH Foundation will:

• Inform the family of each gift by way of an acknowledgement card (not the amount);
• Annually inform the family of how the Tribute Fund is growing and what the funds have been used for;
• Annually inform all Tribute Fund donors of the fund status and invite continuing financial support to the fund;
• List all named Tribute Funds in the Foundation’s Newsletters, on the Donor Wall in the hospital atrium outside the Foundation Office, and in a special section on the Foundation’s website.

In addition to listing the named Tribute Funds, friends and family will be able to view a Tribute Fund online at www.caringhearts.ca and add their own personal message, and make a donation to the fund online.
