MRS. DOROTHY IRENE SORENSEN (POWERS) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Lester Sorensen, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Center on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the age of 88 years.
Dorothy was born on her Uncle’s farm between Granum and Claresholm on January 7, 1919. Dorothy completed her schooling in Claresholm and worked for 3 ˝ years for Alberta Government Telephones. She met Lester Sorensen and they were married on November 11, 1941. They moved to Kirkaldy, Calgary, then Magrath. In August 1951 they moved into Lethbridge.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carole of Thunder Bay; sons Wesley (Pam) Sorensen of Pleasant Grove Utah, and Barry (Marilyn) Sorensen of Lethbridge; brothers Bob (Pat) Powers of Lethbridge, and Jim (Marie) Powers of Mill Creek, Washington. She was predeceased by her husband Lester; daughter Doreen Martin; infant grandson Daniel Martin; granddaughter Denise Martin; and her sister Betty Simpson.
Dorothy was past Honoured Royal Lady of the Order of Royal Purple Elks Lodge #32. She was past Worthy Matron of Laurel Chapter #43 Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Sakkara Temple #115, Daughters of the Nile.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00PM, on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating.
