Meet Cole

My husband and I have lived in Calgary for the last 7 years; however, I grew up in the beautiful city of Lethbridge. On one particular weekend, while expecting our first son, I packed an overnight bag, and headed down to Lethbridge for the weekend to spend time with my family. While visiting, I began to experience, what I thought might be contractions. So I decided to go into the Lethbridge Regional Hospital to be seen by a Doctor, just in case. Sure enough, I was in labor and had already dilated 1 cm. I was in shock. How could this be? I was only a little over 7 months pregnant!

The Doctors and nurses worked quickly to slow the labor and were able to provide me with the necessary treatment to speed up the development of my son's lungs, should he arrive early.

I remained in Lethbridge, resting and hoping to hold out from delivering as long as possible. However, a few weeks later, at only 32 weeks, my son, Cole Jason Eric Trent, was born November 10, 2006. Cole was immediately taken to the NICU and spent several weeks there. At one point, my husband and I were given the option to have my son transferred to one of the hospitals in Calgary, however, once we saw the tender and diligent care he was receiving in the Lethbridge NICU, we opted to stay put.

I can only describe the Nurses and Doctors working in the Lethbridge NICU as angels. They worked very caringly with my son, as well as my husband and I. They not only provided care, but also resources, support, and information to help us through the experience.

My son Cole is now almost 2 and is a very healthy and happy little boy. I come away from my family's experience at the Lethbridge NICU, feeling very blessed.

My husband and I would like to thank Dr. Kerry Chan and all of the wonderful nurses in the NICU for their amazing efforts and extraordinary skills.

Sincerely,
Jason & Lisa (Plausteiner) Trent
