Meet Noah

Here is Noah's story, and I guess it's my story too. It is the story of a healthy full-term baby who found himself in a life threatening situation at birth. Noah spent only the first day or so of his young life in the NICU, but received such tremendous care that he recovered quickly and was soon healthy and thriving.

In the third trimester of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a condition called polyhydramnious (too much amniotic fluid). Three hours into labour, on the 9th of April, 2003, Dr. Davey broke my water, flooding the delivery room, and with the rush of water came the umbilical cord. Noah's head soon followed downward pinching off the cord and it's precious supply of oxygen.

From that moment until the moment Noah was born by emergency caeserean section, only nine minutes passed. The last thing I remember after being wheeled into the operating room was hearing the nurse count Noah's heartrate. 80, 70, 60... and I knew that Dr. Davey had to operate very quickly or we would lose him.

I awoke hours later to find my husband holding a polaroid picture of our son, taken in the NICU. He was pink and beautiful and breathing. Thanks to the amazing surgical skill, knowledge and foresight of Dr. Davey and the competence and caring of the nursing team in the NICU, Noah was in my arms the next day and is now a healthy 3 year old boy. Dr. Davey and the NICU staff are heros who deserve recognition for saving our child's life. Thank you.
