Dragon Tree

This tree pays tribute to the sport of dragon boat racing and those who support growth. Impavidus Draconis started competing during the summer of 2002, and has helped the on-water community in Southern Alberta grow each year by learning new techniques meeting new friends and by helping others achieve their goals. This year, as we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we strive to gibe more back to those who have encouraged and assisted us both on and off the water. Health care professionals in our communities keep us safe throughout the year, Friends and loved ones are there to support us in our endeavors. Volunteers are all of those who work while we play, moving boats and running practices, festivals and keeping everything in order so we can participate in events so important to our own wellbeing. All an essential part of a happy, healthy dragon boat season.

We chose to use origami to signify dragon boating’s very important connection to the Asian community, and decorated in gold and red in reference to the traditional colours of the holiday season. The dove topper represents the peace and harmony we work towards throughout the year.

Once in a while, we all need to be reminded to try something out of our normal comfort zone, even if the idea doesn’t at once seem to fit.

By perseverance, hard work and little bit of help, we can accomplish anything.
