The Overflowing Heart of Hospitality

The figure of the biblical ‘Martha’ is a sign of the welcome, hospitality and service pledged to the residents and visitors who enter the doors of Martha’s House. The theme of our tree is the overflowing heart of hospitality which is artfully captured in the larger tree by the exquisite combination of hearts, roses and fine china. This commitment to service extends to the community as demonstrated by the ribbons which flow into the smaller tree. This symbolic connection signifies the very real connection between Martha’s House and the local community, as seen in a program where volunteer Grandmas and Grandpas welcome neighbourhood elementary schoolchildren to visit and share in the joy of reading. Beyond the obvious benefits to the children in reading skills and literacy, it is truly humbling to witness the love, understanding and unconditional acceptance shared between these seniors and their young guests.
